It was so great to have everyone back this week and learning face to face. It was a wonderful week full of risk taking, exploring and persevering.
Hip Hop
Tomorrow the students can come dressed in casual wear - if possible, dressed and ready for a hip hop dance! We will be recording what we learned this week. They can add some accessories such as a hat, toque or sunglasses! Make sure they can still dance in their outfit.
Conferences
We have virtual conferences next Thursday evening and Friday morning. If you have not yet booked, please do so right away. Spots are filling up quickly. Thank you!
Food Drive
The grade three students will be hosting a food drive and the Food Bank boxes will be delivered early next week. We will be collecting non-perishable food items until Dec. 14th. Please note that making a donation is completely optional. We will focusing on Global Citizenship (Social Studies) and completing various Math tasks in connection with our food drive (i.e. 3D shapes, graphing). More information will follow in Mrs. Taylor's weekly emails.
Yesterday, students wrote in their Author's Notebook about the importance of the food drive. They were asked to list various items that could be donated, what a food drive is, who a food drive helps and why they are important (i.e. helping others, showing kindness, giving hope).
Thank you to the friends who have already made a donation.
Show and Tell
While we were working online last week, students were asked to write a descriptive paragraph about something that is special to them. I told them they could bring it in as a show and tell item. If it is too special or too big, they can bring a picture instead. I will have students read their paragraph and show their item. It will take some time to get through all of the students, we will be doing 3-4 per day when time permits.
Math
This week we worked on a Math problem together in class. The students found it challenging to take risks and make mistakes - try, try again! We are learning that sometimes a mistake is a great time to learn. It is also ok if the answer doesn't just pop into our head. There might be times where we have to make a few attempts before getting the answer or answers correct. We have also started sharing our math thoughts in class through Math talks. Students have been sharing their answer and explaining how they got it!
Homework
Homework is due tomorrow. We will also be having our spelling test with a focus on the long u sound.
